Molalla / Pudding Watershed Assessment ForumThe Molalla / Pudding basin is the focus of this forum. This basin is currently being studied by The Oregon DEQ to create Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs) for pollution standards. Volunteer groups like Molalla RiverWatch, Inc. and the Pudding River Watershed Council are actively working to improve habitat restoration efforts in the basin. Mike Cole from the environmental research firm ABR, Inc. will be presenting information and findings of the recently completed Lower Molalla River / Milk Creek Watershed Assessment coordinated by Molalla RiverWatch through a grant from Oregon Watershed Enhancement Board (OWEB). Learn how the watershed functions and how good water quality is today! Kay Patteson and other Molalla RiverWatch volunteers will be available to address how they will be working to improve stream health.Watershed assessments are scientific documents that gather existing data from all manner of studies and sources, many from within the basin itself. With this tool, researchers are able to analyze trends and present recommendations for the best options to restore watershed health within the basins. With the completion of an assessment, grant funding for projects also becomes more certain. John Runyon of BioSystems will introduce the work that is just now commencing on the Pudding River Watershed Assessment. Scott Eden, Coordinator of the Pudding River Watershed Council, will be available to share information and to guide interested citizens to volunteer opportunities for watershed restoration work. We are looking for citizen input into the assessment process, to learn the most pressing concerns and be sure to address them within the assessment. The cities and rural lands of Molalla and Canby are in both the Pudding River and Molalla River Watersheds. This forum is an opportunity to learn about what is being done, incentive programs to encourage watershed restoration in your area, and information to get involved in planning how to maintain and improve fish runs, water quality and recreational opportunities for your local streams.
